Chandler Buchanan is an Associate at the law practice of Monique Lafontaine Communications & Entertainment Law. Chandler earned her Juris Doctor with a distinction in Technology Law and Policy from the University of Ottawa. Chandler also holds a Master’s degree in Media Production from Toronto Metropolitan University, with a focus on television writing and producing. Chandler’s practice covers a range of communications regulatory, policy and compliance areas, with a particular on broadcasting and digital media policy, including online streaming.

 

Previously, Chandler worked at a large Canadian communications company advising on cable and broadcasting regulatory and consumer policy matters. In her role, she analyzed and advised on CRTC policy decisions relating to cable distribution, community television channels, as well as consumer policy issues relating to accessibility and CRTC consumer codes of conduct governed by the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS). She also held a role within the broadcaster’s regulatory media team, where she advised on regulatory decisions and policies impacting the broadcaster’s television and radio assets. Prior to these roles, Chandler articled with the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC), where she represented consumer voices in telecommunications and broadcasting policy consultations. In this position, she helped prepare submissions for, and appeared before the CRTC for its hearing on telecommunications sales practices in 2018.

 

Chandler is passionate about local theatre and entertainment and volunteers as a board member for Common Boots Theatre. As a former Team Canada athlete who competed internationally at the World level for synchronized skating, Chandler spends her free time coaching figure skating to varying levels of students across Toronto.
